This jacket has armour at the shoulders and elbows it also has pockets for additional armour. It has a removable liner which is an aluminum thermal liner to help keep you warm in extreme cold, it is also able to help keep you cool dry and comfortable in the summer. This jacket is treated to be water repelant not water proof and can be zipped to trousers, which also has the fastenings for optional back protection.
